A pair of spectacles can change a child’s Life!

Meet Zoe. This adorable grade 2 pupil is the recipient of her first pair of glasses.

Like millions of parents, Zoe’s mom, Andrea, did not immediately recognize that Zoe was having trouble seeing.

“I thought she was just trying to get out of going to school because she kept saying she was bored and had headaches,” Andrea says.

However at a routine vision screening done at Zoe’s school, it was detected that she is farsighted and also has astigmatism ( imperfection in the curvature of the eye).

After a thorough eye examination at Tomlinson Optometrists, Zoe was prescribed new spectacles.

“When I got glasses it was easy to see. Now I can see my mom, the whiteboard and my television at home,” she says.

Andrea has also noticed a difference since Zoe received her glasses.

“With the spectacles, she pays more attention,” Andrea says. “Before, she didn’t want to read and she wouldn’t do her homework.”

In fact, as many as 44% of parents are not aware that behavioural problems can be an indication that their child’s vision is impaired.

Zoe is among the one in four children who has a vision issue significant enough to affect their ability to learn. And while clear vision is vital for everyone, children are especially vulnerable when it comes to their visual health.

Since 80% of what a child learns comes through their eyes, it’s hard to overstate the importance of clear eyesight. Vision impacts every aspect of a child’s life, from learning, confidence and social interactions to participating in activities like sports, art or music.

The good news is that majority of visual problems can be avoided or corrected, often with a pair of spectacles.

Our team at Tomlinson Optometrists are passionate about promoting the importance of regular eye care examinations . Book an eye test for your child today!
